UCLA Mock Trial just wrapped up another exemplary year. Teams 964, 965, 966, and 967 all competed at their respective regional tournaments. 964 went undefeated at the Claremont regional, winning 1st Place with a ballot count of 8 wins and zero losses. Brandon Hughes, Amanda Mundell and James Caress were honored as All-Region Attorneys; Mr. Hughes also won an All-Region Witness award. 965 did just as well, taking 2nd Place with 8 wins at the same tournament. Sarah Sherwood and Roxana Guidero were honored as All-Region Attorneys; Tim Hooyenga won an All-Region Witness award. 966 and 967 both won bids at the San Diego regional, finishing in 2nd and 8th Place with a ballot count of 7-1 and 4-4. Philip Mayer, Jack Meyer and Dalia Wahab all won All-Region Attorney awards; Shayan Ebrahim won an All-Region Witness award. 964 and 965 went on to compete at the Newport Beach Opening Round Championship tournament. 964 was undefeated once more, taking 8 ballots and the championship title. 965 earned the title of honorable mention, winning 5 and losing 3. Brandon Hughes, James Caress, Sarah Sherwood and Jack Budish were honored as All-National Attorneys. Brandon Hughes, Tim Hooyenga and Amanda Mundell took All-National Witness honors. Finally, 964 returned to the national stage. Despite competing in a division with all of the other top-ranked programs, and dealing with a number of unreceptive judges, our team still pulled ahead, ultimately finishing as 6th Place in the Edward Toussaint Jr. division with a ballot count of 5 and 3. Brandon Hughes solidified his legacy with an All-American Witness award. We will begin next year as a nationally top-ranked program once more. |
